Nick Leeson set out to save a colleague's job, but ended up bringing down a two-hundred-and-thirty-three-year-old bank.
In 1992, a junior trader named Kim Wong made a mistake. Told to buy twenty contracts, she sold them instead. Twenty thousand pounds, gone in an afternoon.
Nick buried it in an account built for exactly this. He called it 88888, a place to quietly fix small errors before London ever saw them.
